In the midst of our busy lives, work, studies, and responsibilities, it’s easy to forget the very purpose of our creation — to worship and remember Allah ﷻ. Yet, Allah in His mercy has made it easy for us to remember Him in every moment, no matter where we are or what we’re doing.
Allah says:
“So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.”
— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:152)
The remembrance of Allah — dhikr — brings peace, light, and tranquility to the heart. It strengthens our faith (iman) and keeps us connected to our Creator throughout the day.
1. Begin Your Day with Gratitude
When you open your eyes each morning, say:
“Alhamdulillahilladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushoor”
(All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the return.)
Starting your day with gratitude reminds you that life itself is a gift. Every breath you take is a mercy from Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever wakes up in the morning feeling safe in his home, healthy in his body, and having food for the day, it is as if he has been given the whole world.”
— Tirmidhi
2. Recite Short Duas During Daily Activities
The Prophet ﷺ taught us beautiful duas for nearly every moment — before eating, before sleeping, entering the home, traveling, and more. These duas keep Allah’s name alive on our tongues and hearts.
Examples:
- Before eating: “Bismillah.”
- After eating: “Alhamdulillah alladhi at’amana wa saqana…”
- When entering your home: “Bismillah, Allahumma inni as’aluka khayral-mawliji wa khayral-makhraji.”
Each small remembrance is an act of worship and a way to earn Allah’s love and protection.
3. Engage in Dhikr Anytime, Anywhere
You don’t need a special time or place to remember Allah. Whether you’re walking, cooking, or driving, you can repeat simple phrases of dhikr:
- SubhanAllah – Glory be to Allah
- Alhamdulillah – All praise is for Allah
- Allahu Akbar – Allah is the Greatest
- La ilaha illallah – There is no god but Allah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.”
— Tirmidhi
Even saying SubhanAllah once sincerely carries immense reward. The angels record every remembrance you make.
4. Read or Listen to Qur’an Daily
The Qur’an is the greatest source of guidance and remembrance. Even if you can only read or listen for five minutes, make it a daily habit.
Allah says:
“Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
— Surah Ar-Ra’d (13:28)
Listening to Qur’an recitation while commuting or before bed fills your home with barakah (blessing) and brings calmness to your soul.
5. Reflect on Allah’s Signs and Blessings
Look around you — the sunrise, the rain, your health, and your loved ones. Every blessing is a reminder of Allah’s mercy.
Allah says:
“And if you were to count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them.”
— Surah Ibrahim (14:34)
Reflection (tafakkur) turns ordinary moments into acts of worship. Gratitude deepens faith and makes the heart content.
6. End Your Day with Istighfar
Before sleeping, take a moment to seek forgiveness from Allah for your mistakes during the day.
Say: “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness from Allah)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.”
— Bukhari
This habit cleanses the heart and prepares you to rest peacefully, knowing you’ve turned back to your Lord.
Remembering Allah is not only through prayers and fasting — it’s through every breath, word, and action done with sincerity. Whether you’re at home, at work, or on the go, keep your heart connected to Allah through dhikr, gratitude, and reflection.
May Allah make our tongues moist with His remembrance and our hearts firm upon His guidance. Ameen.
